The
completion of the "Application for Marriage License,
along with the required legal documents will need to be completed
and forwarded to "Weddings in Jamaica"
prior to your arrival by cruise ship in Jamaica. We need to receive
all of your legal documents at least (30) days prior to your wedding
date. At the wedding site, the day of your wedding, the Jamaican minister
will have your original marriage license, which you both will sign.
You will then receive a copy of this marriage license as a receipt.
Following your wedding day, the Jamaican minister will file the original
marriage license with the ministry office in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
He will then be issued (2) certified copies of your marriage certificate,
which will be forwarded to the "Weddings
in Jamaica" office in South Florida. This complete process
takes approximately 8-12 weeks following your wedding date. With these
certified marriage certificates, you will then be able to prove legal
status of your marriage and make any legal last name changes necessary.
YOUR
JAMAICAN MINISTER
All
of our ministers are non-denominational in their wedding ceremony
and vow presentations. Because we do not always know until very close
to your wedding date, which minister will be performing your ceremony,
the actual wedding ceremony and vows are not available in advance
and varies dependent upon the minister. JAMAICA does not have notaries,
who perform wedding, or a justice of the peace. All ministers are
licensed by the JAMAICA government and are very good at what they
do. If you have your own minister, who is traveling with you and you
would like to participate in your ceremony, they are always welcomed
by your JAMAICA minister but please remember that the JAMAICA minister
must perform the vows and do the pronouncement at the end. He also
must perform the signing of the marriage license with you.
